What Is Smoke Testing?

A smoke opacity test for a diesel truck engine is equivalent to a traditional smog test for a gasoline engine vehicle. Smoke opacity meters are instruments measuring the optical properties of diesel exhaust. These instruments have been designed to quantify the visible black smoke emissions. Smoke and opacity meters are much simpler (some of them very simple) and less costly in comparison to most other instruments used for particulate matter (PM) measurement. There are two groups of instruments: opacity meters to measure the density of smoke in the exhaust gas, and smoke number meters that optically measure soot collected on paper filters. Second generation opacity meters use laser light scattering for more sensitive and accurate measurements, especially as new diesel engines with much lower particulate emissions are brought into service.

Thorough Analysis, Honesty, and Friendliness. Phillips Auto Care was very professional in their performance for my vehicle. Mitch rode with me as soon as I got there to hear the sound I wanted looked at. He heard it and described it to me. They gave me an estimate after they found the problem, and also took care of the regular maintenance I was there for. I asked about windshield wipers and the cost compared to buying them myself, and he was very honest about price comparisons. So I had them also replace my wipers. 30 Years of Trust. Finally got my truck to Phillip’s for an analysis (Engine check light was on.) It had been running (actually idling) rough for weeks. Speedy Minivan Repairs. Having just moved my family from Nashville, TN, to Manteca, CA my family minivan wouldn’t start. Our roadside assistance agreed to tow my vehicle to a auto repair, from a list of four I chose Phillip’s. I called them to let them know my vehicle was on the way. Excellent Service Without Being Rushed. Phillips Auto Care has worked on my cars for years. From the simple oil change to replacing a engine, their service is excellent. Friendly and Helpful. I found this auto service on yelp and there wasn’t any bad reviews. So on that I tried Phillips Auto Care back in June of 2014 and I haven’t one bad thing to say about them.
